Cape Town Workshop on AI in Mechanics
29 February 2028 | Cape Town, South Africa
The Cape Town AI in Mechanics Workshop for Established and Emerging Researchers is a one-day intensive programme focused on the transformative role of artificial intelligence in applied mechanics research and practice. The workshop will explore emerging AI-enabled developments that enhance, extend, or fundamentally rethink traditional mechanics models, numerical methods, and simulation workflows.
Topics will include machine-learning-enhanced constitutive modelling, physics-informed and data-driven approaches, surrogate and reduced-order models, AI-assisted multiscale and multiphysics simulation, uncertainty-aware modelling, and new computational paradigms that combine mechanics-based principles with modern artificial intelligence.
Through expert presentations, live demonstrations, and interactive discussions, participants will examine how AI can improve predictive capability, incorporate experimental and observational data, accelerate simulations, support model calibration and interpretation, and open new directions for solving complex problems in applied mechanics.
